Ft. Wayne, Ind.—Hailing from Goshen, Indiana is the 2018 Atkisson Indiana Dairy Service award recipient Andy Gall, production manager at the Dairy Farmers of America Goshen dairy processing plant.
The prodigious award is presented annually at the Indiana Milk Quality Professionals, Inc. Conference held this year on April 10, 2018 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
“Dairy is me. I married a dairy farmer’s daughter and have been involved in different sectors of the dairy industry through my working career,” shared Gall. “I am very honored to receive this award. I look at the past award honorees and it’s pretty special to be apart of that group.”
Gall started working on his father’s milk hauling route on the weekends when he was 16 years old. After high school, he married wife of 41 years, Cheryl and began working at Burger Dairy/New Paris Creamery where he stayed for about 16 years. In 1992, Andy started working for Dairy Farmers America (DFA) at the Goshen dairy plant working his way to his current position as production manager.
Andy has been an interictal part of the Indiana Milk Quality Professionals, Inc. advisory board since the inception of the group and has served on the board of directors and as president for several years. He is also active in the Elkhart County 4-H program including the swine club, extension board and 4-H fair board. Gall has been serving as his church choir director for 25 years and coaches the Fairfield FFA chapter parliamentary procedure team. When not volunteering or working, Andy broadcasts high school football, basketball and volleyball as an owner/partner of elkhartcountysports.com.
The award sponsored by IMQP, Inc., is named in honor of the late Mr. Steve Atkisson, a very well-respected milk quality specialist as well as dairy farm and plant survey inspector with Indiana State Board of Animal Health, Dairy Division. Mr. Atkisson was known for his professionalism, fairness and steadfast dedication to ensuring the safety and quality of milk and dairy products for Indiana’s residents.
Indiana Milk Quality Professionals, Inc. was established in 1999 by a group of Indiana dairy enthusiasts to provide up to date information and educational support for the dairy industry professionals involved in the improvement of the quality of milk produced in Indiana.
